About Us

Our Mission

The purpose of the Greater Hazleton Historical Society and Museum is to preserve, educate, and share the rich local history of Hazleton and the surrounding area. The Society endeavors to accomplish these three aspects through a variety of online media, museum tours, and special events. The Society also strives to intervene and actively preserve local landmarks; particularly those in danger of deterioration or demolition. It is the goal of the Museum to preserve that which has shaped our local region and to use the lessons from our past to help us understand and embrace the community’s future.

Who We Are

In 1980, the Society was formed. It was, and remains a local, private, non profit organization, that relies on the generous donations of local residents, companies and visitors.  If you are interested in volunteering in some capacity, please contact us at our email address or telephone number.

Location

The Museum is located in the heart of Hazleton’s old downtown. Our building is the former Hazleton Borough building (prior to the city being incorporated), as well as the old home of the Pioneer Fire Company. It is a large building which is two stories tall, with a finished basement. There is free parking available in the back of the Museum for visitors and board members.

Our address is:

55 North Wyoming Street
Hazleton, PA 18201
